Hopscotch Rabbit Family

The Hopscotch Rabbit Family set is a classic in Calico Critters.  It comes with four basic critter figures, two adults and two children, dressed in detailed clothes (we'll go over each of their individual clothing soon).  You'll often see them being recommended as a great set for someone getting started with Calico Critters.  I definitely agree with that.  In fact, this was also the first family set we owned coincidentally.  Here are some few good reasons why you should consider them for a child starting out with Calico Critters or a major doll play fan.

#1: Flexibility
These 4 critters are essentially plastic shells flocked with very durable and soft fur lining.  They have a total of 5 joints: left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, and head.  The thing about these is that you know the company put a lot of thought into the joint movement.  Unlike some doll companies (Barbie, I'm looking at you), these critters' joints move very naturally.  No 360 degrees head turns, or weird leg splits.  This picture of the Hopscotch Family's dad and patriarch, Harlin Hopscotch Rabbit, shows the maximum movement of each joint.

#2: Accessories
All 4 critters that come in the Hopscotch Rabbit Family set are perfect to go with so many different accessories.  The Calico Critters/Sylvanian Families line has a lot of different accessories for you to story tell with your critter figures.  Those include telephones, books, cups, teapots, pencils, etc...  Even without buying accessories from the exact same brand, these critters would go very well with any small, cute dollhouse items.  Look at how nice Heidi Hopscotch, the mother and matriarch of the family, looks with a book in her hands.

#3: Compatibility
The Calico Critters/Sylvanian Families line, in general, is open to so many possibilities.  The dolls are 100% compatible with all the other families.  Meaning, the critters in this family could certainly try on the clothing of another one.  Bell, the young daughter of the Hopscotch Rabbit Family, could most certainly put on the blue and pink dresses from a different family pictured here.
