Sweet Raspberry Home

The Sweet Raspberry Home doesn't receive as much publicity as some of the other popular sets, including the Hopscotch Rabbit Family, Red Roof Cottage Gift set, etc...  In fact, it doesn't often show up in catalogs.  Nonetheless, it is a good purchase if you have the popular Red Roof Cottage Gift set, because you will find a lot of similarity between the two and they combine for a three story house!  The Sweet Raspberry Home is really cute for play on its own, or you can combine it with the Red Roof Cottage Gift set for a large, spacious home.  Its structure will have some subtle plastic molds that make it easy for the two houses to latch onto each other, but Calico Critters has made it so they look like a part of the home itself.

Here's what I mean when I say subtle:

Amazing, isn't it!  These little bumps on the roof are almost nonexistent, yet they are the framework for how the cozy cottage latches on without shaking.  Obviously, I'll show you just how that works right here:

It's not perfectly obvious, but you can see the presence of the cozy cottage in this image.  The wooden ceiling of this kitchen is actually the bottom floor of it!  And, if any of you were wondering, I took this photo exactly out of some scenes for the Tuxedo Cat family, the residents of our combined three story home.  Though, I should probably mention that this set does not come with all that furniture.  They come from a combination of sets, including the Gachapon: Tarts and Lakeside Lodge Gift Set.  What is included in this specific set is:

Obviously, the house is included along with a small play slide and Grace Hopscotch Rabbit (this is a Calico Critters set, so names are matching with Calico Critter names).  Grace Hopscotch Rabbit is one of Epoch's newest designs for this line, as a baby or small toddler child with moveable limbs.  Previously, the babies they launched could not move their four limbs.  Now, look at what Grace can do:

All thanks to the plastic joints embedded in her furry limbs.  They are concealed with her adorable red felt overalls, but when you take them off you can see them quite obviously like this:

Grace isn't the only item full of detailed designing in this set, though.  The house itself is full of little carvings when one looksat them closely.  I have to admit that one of my favorite things to do with this line of toys is just looking at them all day, and noticing the little things.  Just look at this window of the house with all these flowers:

And again, these are just little things one starts to pick up when looking at it closely.  Even these fake window hinges can be seen.  But really, when you first look at the side of this set, it is actually not standing out much:

Inside the house is a whole space for anyone's imagination.  When a critter first wants to enter this little living space, they may use the openable door (this line of toys always makes their doors openable).  And we have definitely used the door several times with absolutely no squeaking, looseness, stiffness.  It's in the same perfect condition as it was inside the box unopened despite the usage.  The door swings widely like so:

Once inside, your critter will be greeted with a wide open space that can range from anything from a kitchen to a livng room to a baby nursery.  To one side, there will be the floral window I showed earlier.  To the other side, there is a rather large open gap in the wall.  The gap is intended for better use when you have the entire line of red roof houses (it's a push for more purchasses), because all three red roof houses may be combined into one huge mansion.  We don't have the entire red roof house right now, but I can show you what the gap looks like up close:
