Freya, Bell, and Karen beamed with pride when they received their arithmetic test scores back from Heidi who had just finished grading them at the kitchen table.
Teri was having some coffee by the balcony as she waited for her daughter’s results. Skip and David had also done exceptionally well.
“Wow,” said Teri. “Very impressive.” The girls and boys had all passed with top mark A’s.
When Harlin came home that day from his work at the Toy Shop, he heard all about the test and announced,”Such hard work and effort should be rewarded. Anything you kiddos want?”
Skip and David agreed on a pool party with unlimited pizza from the village pizzeria, while the girls wanted a day off to have all sorts of fun and treats.
“We could have a slice of cake and enjoy the views of the village,” Freya suggested over the phone as she was calling.
“Yes, yes, and we could discuss Eleanor Brambles as long as we wanted,” Karen added.
“Not to mention, some TV,” Bell chimed.
The next morning, Bell and Karen slept in and eagerly rushed downstairs after the morning routine, which included brushing their teeth and a good morning fur scrub. Freya was already downstairs waiting for her. Heidi had picked her up early in the morning after dropping Skip and David off to use Teri’s hot tub for their pool party.
“Let’s start the day with some fresh tarts and the housing channel,” Bell exclaimed. The other two agreed.
They plopped themselves down in front of the Luxury Color TV in the Deluxe Living Room along with tarts. Upstairs, the babies were all playing until a huge mix of wails and cries were heard. It was so loud that the sound waves travelled through the wooden floor boards and the girls couldn’t hear anything.
“Oh no! This is the best part,” Freya said as Frasier Chocolate had been moving on to a lovely kitchen completed with a kitchen island and waffles that looked mouthwatering.
“Let’s go up and check what all this commotion is about,” Bell suggested.
Upstairs, Heidi was doing her best to calm a herd of babies down.
“I don’t understand what happened. They were all playing in the hallway or outside at the balcony, and then they started crying. Except for Hopper and Henry, though. Awfully weird,” she said.
The girls all soothed the crying babies and passed out mini treats for all of them. The crying toned down, and they finished up whatever was left of the housing channel episode. Then, the girls all moved on to discussing Eleanor Brambles published book “Book of Needlework” by the balcony. There was a distant wind that was very refreshing.
The babies had all been put to bed for an afternoon nap. Growing babies did need their beauty sleep! But then, Honey woke up and wailed. Her wailing woke up the other babies. Cries filled the house once more. The girls rushed inside and Honey and Ginni, who were sleeping in the Triple Baby Bunk Bed, stopped crying immediately.
It was like a bolt of lightning hit the three of them that instant.
“The babies want in on the fun,” Bell blurted.
“The girl babies, that is,” Karen detailed.
“That’s why Hopper and Henry haven’t been crying!” Freya realized.
Together, the three girls untucked the female babies from bed, which included Olive, Ginni, and Honey. Breeze was at home practicing with her piano, and she had always been the least social one. Heidi phoned Harlin to drop off a tea party set for the babies, and soon a giant tea party was being set up in the living room. Babies with the little play table, and children with fragile cups and donuts.
“The more the merrier,” Freya said cheerfully, and with that all the girls enjoyed their day off.
