Every critter that knew Harlin Hopscotch Rabbit, knew he was strict and hard to please. The secret side of him was that he was warm-hearted and sweet. One day, Harlin announced that it was going to be: take your child to work day, tomorrow and asked who would like to come. Heidi was cooking squash soup in the kitchen. Bell was very excited and decided to ask her father if she could go after breakfast.
Speedy Skip however raced to the living room, where Harlin was reading a pizza magazine. His morning coffee was on the coffee table along with two biscuits. Skip asked, "Dad, can I go with you to work?"
Harlin puts his magazine on his lap and looks up. "Of course you can come with me!"
Skip smiles and sits down for breakfast. "I wanted to go with him," Bell said.
"Well, I asked first."
Bell frowns and finishes her breakfast, "Remember to do your work for that day early. You'll be there all day."
Skip then remembers he has a lot of school work to do. He gobbles up his breakfast and rushes upstairs. He checks the daily schedule. His schedule was always the second row numbered: 2.
The schedule was quite old, the middle section was bent. Today was Wednesday and tomorrow was Thursday. Skip would have to do today's PE and tomorrow's English today, in order to be able to go with Harlin.
After Heidi cleared the dining table, Karen sat down and started drawing a still life portrait. She chose to draw the coffeemaker along with a coffee cup. Skip wonders if he should do English first because he is still full. Nah, that can wait, thought Skip. Instead he decides to play with the babies.
30 minutes later, Skip gets an idea for PE. “Now which baby would like a super speedy stroller ride?”
Honey turns her head from the rocky horse and says, “Eh?”
“Got it Honey you’re up!” Skip says, while picking up his baby sister.
As he reached the first floor he asks, Karen (who is still studying) “Where’s dad?”
Karen replies, “Went to work after breakfast. What are you doing with Honey?”
“Oh, I’m taking her out for a super fast stroller ride.”
“Be careful,” warns Karen, “And don’t go too fast, Mrs.Hopscotch fed her breakfast 45 minutes ago.”
Skip rushes out the door, and places Honey in the yellow and orange stroller. Honey starts giggling as Skip rolls her down the patio stairs. "Lil sis, you're gonna love this stroller ride. And I'll be doing PE too!" says Skip, "1...2...3…GO!"
Skip runs as fast as his little legs can and makes a full lap around the house. Honey's giggling becomes more like hiccups and gurgling. Skip makes another lap and little Honey no longer giggles. When Skip reaches the patio Honey vomits on the ground. Then she starts crying loudly.
Bell, who hears the loud crying, races outside and notices Honey and Skip. "What happened?" asks Bell.
Skip replies, "I was doing PE and I took Honey out for a super fast stroller ride."
Bell shakes her head and picks up Honey. Then she goes inside. Heidi also hears the racket and asks Bell what's going on. Bell explains and says she'll clean Honey up. "Don't make it so loud, Karen's taking a nap," mentions Heidi.
Bell takes Honey upstairs to the Deluxe Bathroom and Heidi opens the door and tells Skip to clean up the mess.
Everything is now taken care of and Skip cleans himself up. Now he has to finish tomorrow's English. He takes a notebook, a pencil and the pencil cup and a book about camping. He lays out the studying tools on the dining table and starts writing. This week Skip needs to finish reading chapter 5-8, and write an essay about it.
The words on paper were swirling around Skip, it was just so confusing. Everytime he wrote a sentence or paragraph he would reread it and found it horrible. 1 and a half hour passed and finally Skip had finished his report. The clock on top of the fireplace mantle read 1:00. Harlin was going to be home soon! Bell rushed down and prepared the coffee as always. Skip went upstairs for a refreshing shower.
15 minutes later, Harlin had returned home and sat down at the living room table. Heidi's squash soup was ready along with toasted bread as croutons. Harlin and Heidi sat down for lunch.
Harlin made a few phone cars and was off. By 4:00, Harlin came back and dinner was served. It was baked carrot and squash and crumbled biscuit on top. After dinner the family watched some TV and Karen and Bell had their book club. Skip and David bathed Hopper and ended up getting wet.
Finally the children went to tuck in the adorable babies tonight and went to sleep themselves. Skip was giddy inside, he couldn't wait till tomorrow. He planned on waking up early.
