Spring Term Test

The day had come, the day of testing. Each parent received a MEMO card with instructions for the test.

Freya was especially jumpy when her mother gave a long speech about getting a high grade. Sometimes she felt her mother was just lecturing her and not Breeze. At 9:00 AM, the test began. The Tuxedo Cat residency cleared and only Mason and every piece of educational material were there.

Everyone else was gathered in Heidi’s living room. She fixed up tea for the adults and some breakfast for the children. Freya was quite timid, she barely ate a bite of her salt and pepper biscuit.

Most of the children were stressed whilst the babies (except for Breeze Chocolate) didn’t seem to understand the issue. Grace just copied what her older sister Bellia did.

“I’m doing this in alphabetical order of your surname. Since all of us have more than one child the order is last name then first name to determine who goes first,” explained Mason, “First up, we have Breeze Chocolate Rabbit, followed by Freya Chocolate Rabbit.”

Breeze followed Mason to his house and the test began. Breeze began writing a few short sentences about herself, then writing the sentences Mason said. Then she added the sums and differences of numbers between 1 to 3.

Mason kept a note of everything with his red pen and politely said that Breeze may now leave. “So, how’d she do?” asked Teri, once Mr.Tuxedo and her youngest daughter entered her sister’s house.

Mason answered, “Well, I haven’t finished grading yet.”

“So, you’re saying Breeze did not do good?!” Teri said with a slight panic, “That is not VERY TERI at all!”

“I did not say that!” Mason protested.

“But, you did not say she did well,” argued the annoyed mother.

“However, I never said she failed.”

“What?! My Breeze failed?!” Teri asked as she started getting worried and anxious.

Finally, Heidi stopped the argument by telling Freya it was her turn. Soon, almost everyone was finished testing. When Bellia returned, she kept screaming, “The test was preposterous! The questions were even more preposterous and the tester talked about facts that were PREPOSTEROUS!”

“What did Mr.Tuxedo even say?” inquired Bellia’s twin sister.

Bellia huffed and puffed and said, “He said if I had 135 biscuits, but I only sold 100 biscuits, what percentage of biscuits were still not sold? Everyone loves biscuits, so of course, I would sell all of them! Plus, no one can make that many biscuits in a day while sticking with the country recipe and hand rolling! IT IS PREPOSTEROUS!!!”

“What did Mr.Tuxedo say next?” asked Skip.

Bellia took a deep breath and explained what happened, “Well, he sighed and was like, ‘Is that really your answer?’ and I was like, ‘NO! That’s preposterous!’.”

“So did you get the question right?” Heidi demanded, worried that her daughter would need to attend school in the city.

Bellia nodded and she continued to rant to Bell and Skip about how preposterous the test was. Grace came after Bellia and Mason told Heidi, she did exceptionally well. Grace beamed with pride and explained she remembered most of the things when she observed her sisters studying. One by one everyone came back and told their friends about their experience. “I wish I studied more with Rose,” Lily told her mother.

“I scared,” Ginni said as she hugged her best friend, Olive.

Olive replied, “Me too, Uncle Mason give hard stuff.”

Breeze said, “I think I do good.”

A day later, test results came back. “Wow, Freya, you got 11/10!” praised Freya’s proud mother for both her daughters exceeded.

Mason sighed at the dining table, no one would need to be transferred this year and his frequent testing days were over until next year.
